I am so glad I was able to learn American Sign Language before going into nursing school. As a Registered Nurse I encounter many different kinds of patients on a daily basis. Learning ASL has given me the confidence to know that when I take care of a Deaf patient, I can communicate with them effectively.

Communication is such an essential part of nursing, not only so that you can take care of the patient physically, but so you can take care of them emotionally as well. I would recommend taking ASL to anyone working in the healthcare field.

We took baby sign language with Nicole almost 1.5 years when my daughter was 2 years old. It was a wonderful experience for my daughter. She learned to communicate without talking and it was powerful since my daughter’s mother tongue was Arabic. I would highly recommend her class to anyone. She is a loving, patient, encouraging and inspiring teacher!

Since I was a child I have always been interested in American Sign Language and Deaf culture. It started with my mom putting me in a "sign language" class offered at the local recreation facility in my hometown around the age of 8 years old, and me being the only person under the age of 25 in the class. It was weird. I knew more than all ten of the other students and that only fueled my interest. As I grew older I didn't practice much besides the alphabet so I became "rusty" but when I had the opportunity to get back connected with the Deaf community, I took it by enrolling in ASL courses at my local community college. After my class ended, I began working with Nicole on a weekly basis to aid in my pursuit of knowledge. It was a rocky start for me but Nicole saw a lot more potential in me than I did in myself. What I loved the most was Nicole wasn't doing it because she had to, she wholeheartedly wanted to help me learn, and for me to become the advocate for Deaf culture that she is. She is extremely passionate about all she does and goes out of her way to make sure that you comprehend whatever she is presenting with 100% of understanding. She exposed me to so many different aspects of Deaf Culture in such an interesting and intriguing manner.

I can honestly say meeting Mrs. Nicole Franklin was a pure blessing and has allowed for me to advance my knowledge of Deaf Culture and ASL and use it in a variety of instances, including my professional life. She is the best teacher (of any subject) I have ever been able to experience and I can say that without hesitation!
